Spectators who had attended all the GUS chariot races since their inception in 2008 agreed that this year’s races were the best ever. For the first time the entire school from Kindergarten up came to watch, filling the hillside along the playing fields. Trumpets and trombones blared fanfares while Emperor Nance, clad in purple toga and laurel crown, presided from a platform at the center of the racecourse.
After winning multiple heats in the blazing sun, an exuberant Owen Binnie, charioteer, pulled by Tahoe Lillelund and Jenny Schumer led his team to victory.
