Renowned Music Teacher, Ray Novack, Named Director of Instrumental Music

After a recent retirement from thirty-five years of a distinguished career as a music teacher and Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Beverly High School, Ray Novack joins us as the new band director. Ray’s long career includes his service in leadership roles in the International Association for Jazz Education and as the guest conductor of the Eastern District Jazz Bands.  In 2001, Ray received the Outstanding Education Award from the Salem State Alumni Association, and for his service to the community, he was named at the 2007 Beverly Rotary Club’s Distinguished Citizen. Ray also performs on keyboard, accordion, and bass in Horizon and The Horns, his own seven-piece band.

According to Superintendent Marie Galinski “Beverly has been blessed by Ray’s work.”

“You made it cool to be a musician in Beverly,” said City Council President Paul Guanci.

“I am very excited on starting a new chapter in my teaching career, and feel very fortunate to conduct the student musicians at GUS,” said Ray.
