Tomorrow’s world is going to demand very different kinds of things of our children. Fortunately, Glen Urquhart is a very different kind of school.

At Glen Urquhart, learning isn’t confined to a book, a classroom, or even our 23-acre campus. For GUS kids, learning starts from within. When children leave GUS, they go as original thinkers with the academic readiness to meet the demands of the most rigorous high schools and colleges, and the global perspective to succeed in the new world. When we look into the faces of our students, from the tiniest kindergartner to the most familiar 8th grader, we see individuals who have a unique path before them, and we see the opportunity, responsibility, and privilege of helping those children dream, achieve, and succeed. At Glen Urquhart, world-class academics and a world-wise curriculum
help young minds that are open to everything develop into
exceptional global citizens who are ready for anything.

For information or a personal tour,
please call Leslie Marchesseault, Director of Admission,

In observation of Earth Day, Glen Urquhart hosted biologist and children’s writer, Dr. Loree Burns, who has authored two children’s books on scientific topics, “The Hive Detectives”, and “Tracking Trash”. She spoke about the first to children in Grade K-3, introducing them to the amazing world of honeybee colonies and the importance of honeybees in our world. Burns answered the students’ numerous questions, including those about being stung by bees. She admitted being quite afraid of bees at one time, before immersing herself in the topic.

Burns spoke about her book, “Tracking Trash”, to grades 4-8. Burns tracked down and interviewed the scientists responsible for tracking the trash which has fallen from cargo ships into our oceans. She shared some of their stories and their research that seeks to find ways to better understand the ocean. Students had many questions about trash in the ocean, and Burns challenged them to think creatively to address and solve the problem.

After presenting the two assemblies, Burns also met informally and answered many more questions from the 4th Grade, as their theme is The Sea. As comfortable in the world of children’s literature as she is in the world of science, Burns also listened raptly as each student shared with her titles of the favorite books each was currently reading.

The opening remarks of her address to the older students included her recalling her writing as a child. She admitted having great regrets that she had saved only one pieces of her early writing, and she exhorted the students to save their work through the years, so they can always have a view into their own thoughts and feelings at different stages of their lives.
