Parents’ Association
A very active Parents’ Association raises funds to support the financial aid budget and teacher directed projects, organizes volunteers to support the faculty and classroom projects, and organizes social events to help foster a sense of community among school families. Each homeroom has two room parents who also serve as representatives to the P. A. Executive Committee. Teachers work with room parents to organize support for field trips, class parties, and other activities.

Each year the Parents’ Association sponsors a major fund raiser such as a goods and services auction or an art auction. Every third year GUS families look forward to “Starry Night,” an auction of art created by members of the Glen Urquhart community. The funds raised by events and activities underwrite a portion of the financial aid budget. Any money raised in excess of the financial aid goal is directed toward teacher initiated projects that are approved by the school administration and supported by the leadership of the Parents’ Association.
During the past few years the P. A. funds have provided new technology in the form of SmartBoards, laptop computers, and digital cameras (both still and video); equipment for the classroom in the newly renovated greenhouse; science lab equipment; and money for professional development.

Mardi Gras Party and Auction at Danversport Yacht Club, 2009.
Guests enjoyed wonderful Cajun inspired food and danced the night away to the sounds of authentic New Orleans jazz by Henri Smith and the Nat Simpkins band. The star of the evening was the incredibly energetic and funny auctioneer Matt Noyes, aka The Weatherman. Thanks to his efforts and the generosity of the bidders, the auction netted over $55,000 for the school, including $7,000 in furnishings for the greenhouse.
