Blooming Into Spring at GUS

Spring is in the air here at GUS, as those of you who have been on campus lately have surely noticed the flowering trees, the flowing streams, and the squeals of delight that waft from the playground, or sometimes out a window, on these sunny, warm-ish, days.

As it does every year, it feels as though we are off to the races from the moment we arrive back on campus from March break, slowly gaining speed all the way through to June and graduation. Just this last week, we celebrated the return of Nature Fair (and a newly established kids fun run), hosted a community Clothing Swap, an Upper School UN Sustainable Development Goals Fair, and the eighth grade class departed for the Eastern Shores of Maryland and Washington D.C. for their Service + Leadership Trip (and that doesn’t even cover all the trips, presentations, and learning that also happened here on campus!). With so much going on this time of year, it’s important to remember all this ‘fun’ is actually a celebration of important developmental milestones that encourage important student growth in so many ways. Just as our thematic and spiraling curriculum builds throughout a student’s educational journey at GUS, all the activities during these busy spring months build to a meaningful end of one phase of school life, while setting the stage for the next. Every grade has important moments like poetry cafes, book launching parties, or medieval morning that not only mark the passage of time, but also celebrate tremendous growth. These events and milestones honor all the ways our students have blossomed over this year and celebrate that growth together is truly one of spring’s greatest gifts.

We hope you won’t miss the opportunity to celebrate with us. If you return for May Day or our Growing With GUS event next week, you will see that just like our students, GUS keeps growing! As always we value the strong roots we share with families and friends that allow us to reach for a bright future. GUS continues to be sustained by loyal affection for this special place in so many important ways. In this Tartan, there are many stories of those who have found ways to keep the connection to GUS strong. We are honored by the commitment of the Cavanaugh Family, inspired by our dedicated alumni, and motivated to keep finding ways to make GUS a place for all families.

May your spring be filled with laughter and light, may you feel welcome to return to this familiar green and shady place, and may your heart be warmed by brightening sunshine and enduring community, now and always.

Trust and Go Forward,
