Ages 4-5: Pioneers
PIONEERS: Children 4-5 YEARS OLD Half Day or Full Day Sessions
Hours: Half Day 9:00 – noon; or Full Day 9:00 – 4:00 All Pioneers sessions run for two weeks.
The Pioneers Program provides theme-based activities for children who have not yet attended kindergarten. Nadine Cubeta and Pat Daignault, professional pre-school teachers, lead our Pioneers staff. Pat and Nadine have been with the GUS Summer Program for many years. They both teach at the Harborlight Nursery School in Beverly.
Pioneers engage in thematic activities in small groups led by Pat and Nadine, they join in free play using classroom toys and art supplies, and they play together outside. The playground has a large grassy area for running and playing games, with wading pools and sprinklers, a pioneer-style schoolhouse, large sandbox, climbing tower, child-sized picnic tables, oversize wooden swing, and wooden rocker. Pioneers enjoy a mid-morning snack provided by the program. Just before noon, the teachers gather the children together for circle time and prepare the children for dismissal.
At noon, Pioneers enrolled in the half-day camp are escorted to the front parking lot by their teachers and dismissed to their parents or caregivers.
Pioneers enrolled in the full day camp stay with their counselors, eat a lunch brought from home, have a brief rest, and then join everyone else at camp for Afternoon Activities. (See description in Extended Day Information.)
