The biennial art show at GUS is always a highlight of the school year. Featuring 2D and 3D pieces, the artwork on display is made by all the students from kindergarten through 7th grade. Families enjoyed touring the buildings and viewing the artwork with their children and commented on the quality, complexity, and sophistication of the work. Artwork in the lower school is mostly based around an animal theme, including “Animal Wildlife Photography” by GUS graduate Willy Somma. Pieces range from kindergarten masks, created after the children learned about the cultural meanings of masks created around the world, to seventh grade “Pique Assiette,” meaning “stolen from plates.” The seventh graders used bits of broken china, jewelry, and colored glass to create works in the folk tradition of Howard Finster’s “Paradise Garden” and Antonio Gaudi’s Spanish architecture. The children’s colorful pieces and portraits currently grace the hallways of the lower and upper school. If you haven’t already, please come take a look and enjoy!
