Summer Updates: Head of School Letter

I am very excited to share my first letter with you as interim head of school, and I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a thrill it was to play a role in graduation back in June. As I have often said, no one does a graduation like GUS and to be able to speak about the graduates on behalf of the faculty was a great privilege. Video and photos from our graduation events are now available online, and I encourage you to take a look, especially if you’ve never witnessed our graduation ceremonies for yourself. I am looking forward to a year filled with more opportunities to represent GUS and celebrate all that is wonderful about our school. Please know it is my great honor to lead Glen Urquhart School this year, and if there is anything you need my door is always open.

In the meantime, I hope this email finds you all enjoying the lovely weather, staying cool, and having fun. When I think of summer, I always wish it would be calm, lazy, and relaxing like the Country Time Lemonade commercials, but I am still working to master the art of slowing down. Here on campus, things have been buzzing! Our SUMMER@GUS campers and GAIN@GUS students fill our classrooms and outdoor spaces with great activity and positive energy, and all the cleaning, painting, and construction we’re doing across the campus is getting us prepared and excited for school to start again in September.

It’s hard to believe how fast time flies these days. Just as the school year flew by, so is summer! I hope you will continue to enjoy long days, sandy feet, and lots of sunshine. As I write this letter, we still technically have 56 days until summer ends on September 23. So I encourage all of you, as the Country Time Lemonade ad would, to “take the long way home, run through a sprinkler,” and maybe even enjoy a pitcher of lemonade. May you all have a chance to slow down and enjoy every last minute of these wonderful summer days, but do not be sad when they are over. There is plenty of fun left to be had when school starts in September. I can’t wait!

Sincerely,

Gretchen Forsyth
Interim Head of School
