Introducing the Collins Family Library

GUS has a longstanding, continuous commitment to providing students with an extraordinary education. The GUS library has always played a leading role in promoting high-quality scholarship. After all, strong school libraries build strong students!

The GUS library has also been a place of joy and human congregation; students, faculty, parents, visiting authors, tutors, and alumni all herald the library as a space that nurtures a strong sense of community, wonder, peace, and creativity.

This summer, the GUS library underwent a renovation to revive and energize this beloved space. New modular furniture provides ample space for students to curl up with a book, to collaborate or sit down and study, and allows for a quick transformation from library to performance space. The walls were painted white, in keeping with our design philosophy, to let in more natural light, and to allow the books to serve as a focal point. Additional improvements to the space include task-oriented LED pendant lighting, a new rug and ceiling, a more appropriate and aesthetically pleasing housing of all IT equipment, and a stage that was custom designed and built by GUS alumni Nick Kent ‘91 P ’23 ’26.

We are thrilled to announce the opening of the Collins Family Library, made possible by the generous support of Tim and Emily Collins, P ’14 ’17. A debt of gratitude is also owed to former President of the Board of Trustees George Balich P ’92 ’96 GP ’22 ’25 and Trustee Lisa Kent P’23 ’26 for their skilled and thoughtful planning with this project. Students, teachers, learning specialists, and tutors have already begun to make use of this amazing new space, and we can’t wait to see the creative ways this beautiful library will be used for years to come.
