Welcome Summer

Dear GUS Community,

I hope this Tartan finds you all easing into relaxing summer days. Drinking lemonade, going on bike rides, and having picnics at the beach, there really is no better place to be than the North Shore in summer! While I hope your days are slowing down, the month of June was a busy one here at GUS. We had a wonderful graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023, highlighted by wonderful speeches from Cameron Kirwin and Justin McNiff from the Class of 2015. Their words were both inspirational and affirming, recognizing that there is so much of the GUS experience that our graduates take with them as they trust and go forward. It was truly a special day honoring a special class.

We also take a moment to honor our faculty. How grateful we are to those who have given us not just their time, but also their hearts to this work. We recognize those who have hit service milestones this year, especially Sandy Thoms for her 35 years of service! Sandy's dedication to GUS is unparalleled, and we look forward to celebrating her tenure throughout the 2023-2024 school year leading up to her retirement at the end of next year. We truly will need a full year to honor Sandy's commitment. This year, we had two other notable retirements — Kitty Hunt and Beth Riley. Both Kitty and Beth have played important roles at GUS, especially during the pandemic. They have certainly earned their retirement!

After a busy year, we have all earned some time to slow down. While you wouldn't know it on campus with summer camp abuzz, this is an important time in the cycle of schools. We have closed an important chapter and now we rest, plan, and ready ourselves to begin again come fall. As always, the start of something new brings the hope of something great. No doubt, the 2023-2024 school year will be great! Get ready!

Sincerely,
