Week 7 August 4 - 8

  • Carnival Fun: A great way for us to wrap up our summer with games and activities that celebrate summer!

Leader-in-Training

The Leader in Training program is an opportunity for aspiring counselors and young professionals to learn the skills necessary to become part of the SUMMER@GUS team, as well as the broader, working world.

This 3 week program is designed to teach participants how to engage with campers responsibly by understanding age appropriate behavior, problem solving, and relationship building skills. This program explains the importance of the social and emotional well being of each child as well as how to balance being fun, safe, and authoritative with campers. This program goes over the application process of becoming a counselor, which will include resume building, interview skills, program development, and delivery.

Each day LIT's will also have the chance to apply the skills they have learned in a camper group experience supported by SUMMER@GUS counselors. Individuals that successfully complete their LIT experience and become at least 16 years of age by the following Summer, will be encouraged to return as a counselor-in-training. Teens who are 16 years of age as of June 15th may apply to be on staff as a junior counselor with SUMMER@GUS.
