Master Mathematics Educator Mahesh Sharma Returns to GUS
Mahesh Sharma, internationally known for his groundbreaking work in mathematics education, returned to GUS to meet with members of the math faculty for two intensive days of professional development. His visit was a follow-up to the work he began with faculty at the beginning of the school year, exploring the philosophy that guides the GUS math program and considering how to best make connections to individual student’s learning styles. Professor Mahesh met with kindergarten through eighth grade teachers and provided examples of language, models, and procedures that facilitate student understanding. He taught three sample lessons in kindergarten, second, and third grade. He also worked with students in fourth grade, helping them hone their skills and encouraging all of them to become confident mathematicians.
