Emily Rabinowitz-Buchanan Will Lead GUS Pre-K Program
GUS is pleased to welcome Emily Rabinowitz-Buchanan as the Director of Preschool. Her considerable expertise in early education and thoughtful work with families and students over the past year in GUS admission efforts will combine as we extend our K-8 curriculum to our new pre-K program. Emily loves working with children and adults to think critically and creatively, to discover passions and share them with a community, and to grow by nurturing strengths and embracing challenges.
Emily was the founding teacher-director and later executive director of Red Hook Playgroup, a progressive preschool in Brooklyn, NY. Red Hook Playgroup started with a handful of children and when Emily left for New England, it enrolled over sixty students annually. Prior to her work at Red Hook Playgroup, Emily taught preschool at the Washington Market School in NYC for three years. Emily received her BA in urban studies and childhood education from Vassar College, where she worked in numerous elementary classrooms in local public schools, as well as in classrooms at Vassar's Wimpfheimer Nursery School. Emily received her MA in developmental psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University and, in recent years, pursued continuing studies in educational leadership at Bank Street College of Education.
