Invent-A-Fish: Grade 4
Fourth graders dive deeper into their study of the sea through an exploration of fish.
They begin their study of fish, honing their non-fiction reading and note-taking skills, through research. The read about all the different parts of fish, their coloration, tail and mouth shapes, and note how these features vary according to the area of the ocean that they live. Do they live in the open ocean? At the bottom of the sea? In shallow water? They're then challenged to invent their own fish and bring it to life as a 3D model. The final step, a written description of the fish, where it lives, and why it looks the way it does, and any adaptations due to its environment, accompanies their final presentation to their classmates.
This year's class tackled the Invent-A-Fish project virtually. Students met for a Publishing Party this week where they presented an impressive array of narratives and 3D fish, crafted from various materials found in their homes. We are so proud of this group of creative and imaginative thinkers!
