Earth Day 2021: Restore Our Earth!
In celebration of Earth Day, April 22, 2021, we are encouraging everyone in the GUS community to pledge to make one small change to help restore our Earth.
GUS faculty have offered up some suggestions for small changes below, but feel free to get creative! Please make your pledge below to let us know what you’re planning, and don’t forget to send us photos, video, artwork or any other visual representation of your efforts to be included in our community celebration on Friday, April 23 at All School Meeting.
While we can’t all be together this year to celebrate and make a difference on Earth Day, we can all be together in making a difference!
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out.
Suggested Small Changes:
Reduce
Replace a single-use item with a reusable one: a water bottle, straw, napkin, sandwich bag, saran wrap
Buy larger containers and portion out servings instead of single-use
Practice Leave No Trace principles when out in nature
Turn off the water when you brush your teeth
Reduce idle time in cars
Try a biodegradable detergent
Buy local! Reduce your carbon footprint by staying closer to home for shopping needs
Reuse
Repurpose single-use containers around the home
Water house plants instead of emptying water bottles or other “used” water into the sink
Soak old markers in water to make your own watercolor paints
Pollinate
Plant pollinator friendly species in your garden
Make a seed bomb
Post a “No Spray” sign
Share the bee love with your neighbors by making chalk signs on your sidewalk
Let your dandelions grow
Make a hummingbird feeder
Recycle
Send your plastic waste to terracycle
Start composting in your house
Make a worm bin
