Glen Urquhart School Celebrates the Class of 2024
On Wednesday, June 12, Glen Urquhart School (GUS) celebrated the 18 members of the Class of 2024 during the 44th graduation exercises at their campus in Beverly Farms, MA.
Family and friends gathered on Bartlett Field for the intimate ceremony where, as is tradition at GUS, each student was individually recognized and celebrated for their unique contributions to the school community. These ‘graduate introductions’ are presented annually by Head of School Gretchen Forsyth, but are representative of the collective voice of the GUS faculty.
“The Class of 2024 has wowed us with the way they have come together. We have all watched as they questioned and explored their understanding of everything from math concepts to current events,” said Head of School Gretchen Forsyth. “Most importantly, they worked to respect each other and support one another as they strived to find not only the best within themselves, but in every situation. This is a group headed for great things and it is an honor to celebrate them today.”
One of GUS’ most wonderful traditions is our alumni graduation speakers. Our speakers were in 8th grade when our 8th graders were in Kindergarten. They return to GUS as recent college graduates to speak to our graduating class. It is our hope that the members of the Class of 2024 find inspiration and take comfort from the words of alumni that encourage them to trust and go forward. This year’s alumni speakers were Oz Caiti-Nardone ’16, who will graduate from Northeastern University next spring, where he is majoring in psychology, and Nora Sullivan Horner ’16, who recently graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College with a major in government and legal studies and a concentration in international relations.
“While this campus has changed since my last time here, the environment and passion of the staff and teachers has not,” shared Oz Caiti-Nardone ’16. “Believe them when they say they care. They have equipped each of you with the tools you will need to discover who you’re meant to be.”
“I encourage you to take time regularly to immerse yourself in the present, to reflect on it, on the past and on the future,”Nora Sullivan Horner ’16. “To take time to enjoy or to mourn or to troubleshoot, and to go forward with these reflections in mind. Doing so will enable you to get to know yourself better, to discover your goals and values, especially as they increasingly compete with outside influences and events.”
Next fall, GUS graduates will head off to a number of high schools, including Beverly High School, Essex North Shore Agricultural + Technical School, Hamilton-Wenham Regional High School, Hyde School, Marblehead High School, NuVu Innovation School, Phillips Academy Andover, Pingree School, Reading High School, St. John’s Prep.
