Halloween Treats

Halloween is quickly approaching, and it is the perfect time to share treats!

I wanted to use this as an opportunity to remind the community that GUS strives to be a nut-free school. Please be aware of this if you and your child are planning on bringing any treats in for Halloween (or for any other occasion). The complete Nut Policy may be found in the Parent/Student Handbook. A few highlights to keep in mind this season:

  1. All food brought in must include an ingredient list that the nurse will review prior to the food being shared. Food will not be served if the ingredient list is not provided.

  2. If the label states “made in a facility that processes nuts,” it can be served, but students with nut allergies will not eat the food due to the risk of cross contamination. If a food label states “processed on the same equipment as nuts” or “may contain traces of nuts,” the food will not be served as it is unsafe and may contain the allergen.

If you plan on bringing in treats, please also be thoughtful of students with other dietary needs, for example those who are gluten-free or dairy-free. If the treat contains gluten/dairy please bring an alternative option in so that all students may be included. If you have specific questions about your child’s class, please reach out to me and I will inform you of any dietary restrictions.

While every reasonable accommodation will be made to reduce the risk of exposure to nuts in the school setting, the school cannot guarantee a completely risk-free environment, so I greatly appreciate your help in keeping GUS a safe and inclusive community!
