"Nature is not a place to visit, it is home.” Gary Snyder
In Natural Architects, students will use their love for wildlife and the outdoors to explore structures, patterns, textures, and colors found in the landscape that surrounds us. Reconnecting with nature through excursions, pauses, digging in, and deep connections, students will discover natural design and purpose in nature’s “architecture.” Students will synthesize their experience through an expression of their choice - 3D art, photography, painting, sculpture, etc. Children will create individual information books based on their expertise, building on age-appropriate and individual writing goals. Additionally, mathematical skills in geometry, measurement, and symmetry will be explored as it fits into each day’s topic. Final projects will be shared through a peer “celebration,” designed to highlight children’s individuality, inspiration, and perseverance.
