Massachusetts Childrens Book Award Program

Students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades who are participating in the Massachusetts Children’s Book Award program recently had lunch in the library to share their progress. Every fall, Salem State University publishes a list of twenty or so books selected by teachers and librarians. Participating students need to read at least 5 books by spring. At library lunches (they bring lunch, Ms. Crerand provides dessert), the students give informal book talks about what they’ve read so far and get reading suggestions from others. At our last library lunch, before March break, the students will vote for their favorite book. This is a great program to support and enjoy-a children’s book award that is actually awarded by children!
