A Happy Return to Beloved GUS Traditions
This fall has seen a happy return to so many beloved GUS traditions that have been absent, or altered, since early 2020, beginning with the Upper School Retreat to Camp Winaukee, Community Potlucks, and the 8th Grade Trip to New York City earlier this fall, and, more recently, Grandfriends Day and Bread Day, among others!
Grandfriends Day
On Friday, November 11, we welcomed Grandfriends back to campus! Students had the chance to show grandfriends around their classrooms and to share what they’ve been working on or complete a fun project. Back in Braemar, the GUS band, led by Ray Novack, marked some notable milestones including performing on stage for the first time since 2019, and performing for the first time in GUS history with a tuba. Following the band were performances by students in kindergarten through eighth grade, led by Music Teachers Sarah Bailes and Patty Clark. Thanks to all who contributed to making this event a success, and to all who came to celebrate with us!
Bread Day
On Friday, November 19, 2022, Bread Day came back to GUS! The Bread Day Song was sung, bread was broken, bread was shared between partners, and so. much. bread. was. eaten. First celebrated in 1980 when first Head of School Harry Groblewski brought the tradition to GUS, Bread Day honors bread as a symbol of life, community, and sharing. Thanks to all our amazing friends and families who contributed so many wonderful breads to make the return to this beloved tradition such a success.
