So Much to Celebrate: June Tartan
Dear GUS Community,
Cue the Duck Boats! While there has been a lot to celebrate in Boston these last few weeks, here at GUS we have also been celebrating. The Graduation Exercises for the Class of 2024 were wonderful, as we gathered on Bartlett Field, our green and shady place. The sun was shining and the tears were flowing as we said our final goodbyes to a class that really made the most of their time at GUS, this last year especially. We have no doubt the lessons they learned and the friendships they made will sustain them, just as our alumni graduation speakers, Nora Sullivan Horner and Oz Caiti-Nordone assured them. Both speakers were amazing and their messages were just what the graduates needed to hear!
We all gathered to honor Sandy Thoms on the occasion of her retirement. It was so wonderful to see so many important people over Sandy’s time at GUS come out to celebrate. Former heads Raymond Nance and Alan Feldman were also on hand to congratulate Sandy, as well as a number of former faculty members. Sandy’s former co-teacher and dear friend, Amy Gallo, was our master of ceremonies and also offered a heartfelt tribute. On behalf of the school and the board of trustees, Sandy was presented with a framed print of GUS parent and board member, Amy Crafton’s painting of the lower school - a beautiful way for Sandy to remember her happy place.
While we celebrate goodbyes, we also celebrate some new beginnings. Some for GUS faculty moving on, but also for faculty members joining the GUS team. We are excited to start looking ahead with an optimistic feeling that the best is still yet to come for our small school and all the people who are a part of it.
Keeping that hopeful feeling for GUS’ future in mind, we offer one last reminder that it is not too late to support GUS by making a gift to the GUS Fund. This is an important way for us all to come together in support of the school and the work we do. It is amazing what a group of dedicated individuals can do when they come together and the GUS fund is certainly an example of that strength. We hope you will join those who have already given and help make a difference for GUS.
Summer certainly doesn’t quiet things down around here. Summer camp is in full swing and we are already busy planning for the next school year and beyond. We hope you all find time to enjoy these lovely summer months and look forward to connecting in the fall.
