March Message from HOS

As the days grow longer and the warmth of spring begins to envelop our campus, there is a vibrant sense of renewal and growth that fills the air at Glen Urquhart School.

It is a wonderful time as we await the tree by the silo to bloom, notice more birds at the second grade bird feeders, and see daffodils popping up along the walkway to the lower school, all reminding us of the exciting new beginnings and fresh start that spring brings.

Spring has sprung for our eighth graders, who now, with the secondary school process behind them, are busily putting the finishing touches on their world maps, diligently practicing for the upcoming musical, and eagerly preparing for their service week in Puerto Rico in April. This trip not only promises to be a unique educational experience but also an opportunity for personal growth - a capstone experience after years of GUS field trips and overnights to prepare them.

Overnight trips are also on the horizon for students in grades 4-7, with our sixth graders looking forward to their impending visit to The Farm School next week. Soon, they'll be rolling up their sleeves to help care for chickens and cows, all while learning and having fun in the wonderful fresh air of farm life. Students in pre-K through grade 3 are looking forward to many exciting field trips, projects, and classic spring events like second grade’s Heritage Project and third grade’s Medieval Morning. As always, these hands-on experiences are invaluable in nurturing their curiosity and appreciation for the world around us.

Campus is also bustling with activity as we prepare for the numerous events filling up our calendar that will welcome guests to campus. Spring brings the opportunity to refresh our beautiful campus, ensuring it’s in top shape for all the happenings ahead. Recently, flowers aren’t the only thing popping up around campus! Over break, we added a new play structure that is sure to become a favorite spot on the lower school naturescape. We also remain committed to welcoming new families to the GUS community. We’re excited to launch Bring a Friend Day for students in grades 5-8, and we’ll open campus to prospective families to Get to Know GUS. It's always a joy to share what makes our school so special.

Spring is in the air, and so is the buzz about our Spring Gala & Auction! It's our first grand, off-campus celebration since COVID, so let's come together to shower GUS with love. We’ll also celebrate the incredible careers of Dawn Southworth P '04 and Patty Clark ahead of their well-deserved retirements, and fuel the growth and fresh starts that make our school so special. Before we turn our attention to honoring our graduates with cherished traditions like May Day and Evening with the Graduates, let's revel in the joy of our vibrant community – mark your calendars for Saturday, April 26th, and prepare for an unforgettable night!

Thank you for your continued support and partnership - and a special thanks to all those who participated in our recent Family Survey. There is so much to celebrate, big things and little things, this spring at GUS. How proud we all should be of our little school. Together, we are growing GUS into a place where new beginnings are embraced and fresh starts abound.
